Friday 17 - Sunday 26 June, 10am to 8pm
Powis Square W11
This year, with the support of Arts Council England, The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea are launching a new temporary structure, the Portobello Pavilion.
The Pavilion will explore ‘places where people live’, and, as this year’s InTRANSIT coincides with UK Refugee Week, the structure has been conceived by internationally renowned local artist Arabella Dorman to be evocative of the style of communal buildings familiar to refugees around the world. Inside the Pavilion, the team have devised a programme of creative activities to encourage dialogue around planning, regeneration, social housing, and urban green space. These free, varied and practical workshops are devised in conjunction with local groups and are supported by a grant from Westway Trust.
Each evening, the Pavilion’s art table becomes a communal dining table with special guests hosting conversations and serving food from a diverse range of cultures. The People of Portobello offer everyone the opportunity to engage and explore the conditions in which people live both at home and abroad.
